Do you really know what is happening in our community – 18-08-2016

Speaker: Leonette Beazley

Half of all homicides in NZ are committed by an offender who is identified as part of the family. NZ Police register a family violence investigation every 5 and half minutes. 1 in 3 NZ women experience physical or sexual violence from a partner in their lifetime.

So who picks up the pieces?
Leonette Beazley is the Coordinator for Mid-North Women’s Refuge and facilitates Anger Change for Mothers. As a mother herself she has genuine empathy for those families seeking help. Through her study in Transactional Analysis she has come to the conclusion that “hurt people hurt people”.
Leonette will be talking about her beliefs around the factors leading to domestic violence, the mission and philosophy behind Women’s Refuge and its key cornerstones and services.
