Speaker: Geraldine Henare – Sales Manager of Mediaworks, Northland and leads a team of 7.
Chook grew up in Moerewa. During her early years she was exposed to a lot of violence and didn’t receive a lot of support as she struggled to find her place in the world. Because of this she initially turned her back on her culture but as time went on and she became more successful in her career she began to reflect on her upbringing. Today she embraces her family and culture and is clear about what makes her “stand up each day”.
She talks about the positive influences in her life and about how she uses her own learnings to motivate a team of people. Chook is a really positive, inspiring woman who believes that “you should never stop learning” and she is constantly pushing herself to learn new skills even when it puts her in uncomfortable situations. A few years ago she realised that a fear of public speaking was holding her back from progressing her career to the next level so she took herself off to Toastmasters. Recently she won a regional speech competition and went on to make the finals at the nationals.
We can all learn something from Chook and how she has overcome the challenges in her life.
